Fulbert et l'héritage de Grégoire le Grand

Abstract : Fulbert encountered the legacy of Gregory the Great in several ways: there were, in his time, works of the holy pope in Chartres; But there were at least as many at the abbey of Fleury, at Corbie, at Reims, all places that Fulbert was able to attend, notably for his training. The doctrine of Gregory is found in the figure of the bishop as in that of the monk. Gregory is directly quoted in a letter from the canons of Chartres denouncing plunderers of ecclesiastical goods. We also note the use of Gregory's letters as a canonical source. It is also Gregory who is in the background of a letter from Fulbert to the King of Denmark (and of England) Cnut the Great. Finally, the political doctrine of kingship, around the figure of Solomon and not unrelated to the evangelization of the northern peoples, also depends on texts related to the tradition of Gregory.
