Deux synodes tenus en Angleterre en 786 sont connus par un rapport de Georges d'Ostie adressé au pape Hadrien Ier. On peut y lire une liste de vingt canons dont la disposition et le contenu reflètent des réflexions très élaborées sur la vie de l'Eglise et l'organisation sociale et sur les relations entre Rome, l'Eglise anglo-saxonne et l'Eglise franque. Alcuin participa à ces conciles et fut très certainement impliqué dans la rédaction de ces canons et du rapport de Georges d'Ostie. On peut y reconnaître des thèmes importants dans l'oeuvre d'Alcuin, en particulier les références aux œuvres de Grégoire le Grand et l'inspiration du saint pape dans la vision de l'Eglise.

Two synods held in England in 786 are known by a report of George of Ostia addressed to Pope Hadrian I. It contains a list of twenty canons, the layout and content of which present very elaborate reflections on the life of the Church and social organization and on the relations between Rome, the Anglo-Saxon Church and the Frankish Church . Alcuin participated in these councils and was certainly involved in the drafting of these canons and the report of Georges d'Ostie. Important issues in Alcuin's works can be recognized, especially references to the works of Gregory the Great and the inspiration of the Holy Pope in the vision of the Church.
